Elias Samson on drifting back into NXT

Elias Samson

It’s been nearly a year since the veiled personality that is Elias Samson made his in-ring debut on NXT television. Since bursting onto the scene, “The Drifter” has proven to consistently shroud his career with a cloud of mystery, leaving no telltale signs of his future intentions. After making his return to NXT action following a leg injury, WWE.com attempted to try and shed more light on Samson’s path. As you’ll see, that’s a task easier said than done.

WWE.COM: First off, Mr. Samson, congratulations on returning after a three-month absence from the ring. How did it feel to finally make “The Return”?

SAMSON: It felt like it was the right thing to do at the right time. However, “The Return” is just the beginning. I've got a lot more songs to sing and a lot more fights to win.

WWE.COM: Your first attempt at NXT success could be described as fluctuating. Did having the chance to step away change how you look at things?

SAMSON: It made things very clear. I understand that anything can happen at any time so I’m focused on where I need to be, while understanding the rest will take care of itself.

WWE.COM: So can we say this is a new version of Elias Samson?

SAMSON: Newer version? I'm the same man I've always been. The Drifter is timeless, just like my music.

WWE.COM: Speaking of your music, why do you rely so heavily on it?

SAMSON: I don't believe I rely on it. It's how I choose to communicate, it’s how I spread my message and it’s how The Drifter lives his life. Music touches everyone in a different way, there ain't no denying that.

WWE.COM: What kind of message will you communicate this time around?

SAMSON: I ain't happy about what I've done. What I've done don't make me happy. I ain't happy about where I'm going. And where I'm going don't make me happy.

WWE.COM:  Can you give us a little more insight into what that means?

SAMSON: The world ain't ready to know all the details of my life. Distance is a virtue. Just understand one thing: I intend to p*** off every last person that ever wished ill upon me. My injury was everything they ever wanted, but now I'm back. The Drifter walks again.
