Win or lose, Andrade Almas can always be counted on to know where the after-party is. But is Cien's nightlife detrimental to his in-ring career?
There are many perks to being an international NXT Superstar, and Andrade “Cien” Almas enjoys each and every one of them.
As his social media followers can attest, Almas is often seen gallivanting around town or on the privileged side of a VIP rope with a female companion (or sometimes a whole harem) on his arm. Though nobody can begrudge the third-generation luchador for embracing life without a mask (indeed, Almas hid his movie-star good looks under a mascara for most of his career), the talk in recent weeks has shifted from admiration of Almas’ considerable skill to gossip about his late-night partying.
And more important, commentators are asking whether the playboy life is already jeopardizing Almas’ professional pursuits. Cien has suffered two high-profile losses since April — first against Aleister Black, then against Drew McIntyre — and his checkered win-loss record has some observers putting the blame on Almas’ extracurricular activities.
Eyewitness reports of Cien closing down clubs — sometimes in the wee hours of the morning of a big match, no less — have become fodder for the NXT announce team. Otis Dozovic sounded downright incredulous when Almas popped into the WWE Performance Center to interrupt McIntyre’s workout, as though Cien had become a rare sight inside the state-of-the-art training facility. And just this past week, Kassius Ohno became the latest to pile on when he suggested that Almas is squandering his potential — a claim with which Almas’ father, uncles or grandfather (all wrestlers) might concur.
WWE social media correspondents even captured Almas scrolling through his phone — presumably making late-night arrangements — mere seconds before his match at a recent NXT Live Event.
