August Grey def. Ariya Daivari
Though he’s relatively new to 205 Live, August Grey is silencing the doubters one week at a time.
Not only has the purple brand’s flashy new Superstar impressed by standing up to the sadistic Timothy Thatcher on NXT, he also claimed what was arguably the biggest win of his career on 205 Live when he spiked Ariya Daivari face-first into the canvas with an elevated Unprettier.
That’s not to say it was easy. Daivari, who was apparently confident enough to send Tony Nese to the backstage area during his entrance, routinely mocked Grey in the early goings and nearly scored the victory when he landed a picture-perfect Persian Splash and a uranage.
Grey nevertheless fired back when he threw caution to the wind by diving headlong through the ropes to wipe out Daivari at ringside.
Daivari seemed to be closing in on victory when he teed up his foe for the Hammerlock Lariat, but Grey ducked it and left his opponent seeing stars with his impressive take on the Unprettier.
Curt Stallion def. Raul Mendoza
Though he scored the 1-2-3 in an impressive victory against Raul Mendoza, Curt Stallion didn’t look like a winner by the end of the evening due to a heinous 2-on-1 assault by Legado del Fantasma after the match.
In the eyes of Wilde and Mendoza, Stallion became a marked man the second he mentioned the name of their mentor and NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar, and Mendoza displayed an early mean streak when he tugged at Stallion’s hair and nonchalantly pulled Stallion off the canvas during a pinning predicament.
Stallion, a recent newcomer to the purple brand who has earned a future title bout against Escobar, impressed with a series of blistering chops and a fearless dive through the ropes that sent Mendoza careening to the ringside floor.
Mendoza eventually regained control, but when he went for the decisive blow, Stallion shockingly countered into a rollup for the victory!
That’s where the good news stopped for Stallion, however, as Joaquin Wilde and Mendoza immediately attacked.
Stallion momentarily fought back against the dangerous duo, landing a couple strikes on each of his foes, but Stallion stayed down when Mendoza and Wilde clobbered him with a side Russian leg sweep combined with a savage boot to the jaw. As 205 Live concluded, Escobar finally appeared at the top of the stage while sporting an arrogant smirk and wearing the NXT Cruiserweight Title over his shoulder to watch Stallion struggle to get back to his feet.
