205 Live’s main event leaves the WWE Universe breathless
Building a show around a whole new roster from the ground up is a delicate, arduous task, but WWE Network’s 205 Live laid down a key portion of its foundation with a truly epic Fatal 5-Way main event match this week that decided the No. 1 contender for Neville’s WWE Cruiserweight Title.
Pitting TJ Perkins, Jack Gallagher, Cedric Alexander, Noam Dar and Mustafa Ali (who beat Ariya Daivari earlier in the night to sub in for an injured Tony Nese) against one another, the match was a breakout performance for all five Superstars. Dar was a weaselly savage, Alexander kicked a whole bunch of dudes in the head, Ali did stuff that made you break out your old physics textbooks and Gentleman Jack headbutted TJP so hard en route to victory they both had cartoon birds circling around their domes. And yes, William the Third made a crucial appearance. Suffice it to say, if you were holding your breath for the breakout moment of 205 Live’s young history, last night may have been your chance to exhale.

If we’re being entirely honest, the thrills didn’t stop there: This whole episode was a home run, from Austin Aries’ delightful pithiness at the commentary booth to the unexpectedly joyous sight of The Brian Kendrick running down the “riff raff and trash people” who share the locker room with him moments before Tajiri spits green mist in his face. You know what? Check out the whole episode here. You’re gonna want to be caught up once Gran Metalik shows up next week and things get really sick.
