WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax def. Natalya & Tamina
Despite facing a challenge from Natalya and Tamina, two of WWE’s toughest and most battle-tested Superstars, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax remain the team to beat following a highly physical title defense at WrestleMania.
Natalya and Tamina, who earned the title opportunity by winning a Tag Team Turmoil Match less than 24 hours earlier at WrestleMania Saturday, entered the bout primed to negate the champions’ defining traits of expert technique and brute force.
The challengers used frequent tags and slick tandem offense, including backdropping The Irresistible Force, to get off to a hot start, but their momentum was halted after Baszler kneed Natalya in the face and Jax slammed Tamina on the floor. As Tamina slowly recovered from the impact, the champions unleashed a targeted attack on Natalya’s left leg.
Tamina returned in the nick of time to break up a near-fall and later repaid Jax by backhanding her and slamming her to the mat, to the thunderous approval of the WWE Universe.
Her subsequent attempt at the Superfly Splash came up empty, leading Natalya to tag in and, amazingly, cinch in the Sharpshooter on Jax. Unbeknownst to The Queen of Harts, however, Baszler had also tagged into the match moments prior, rendering Jax the illegal competitor. As Natalya sat back on the Sharpshooter, Baszler snuck in from behind and sank in the Kirifuda Clutch, putting Natalya to sleep and earning the W for her team.
With each successful title defense that Baszler and Jax make, it becomes increasingly apparent that one might have better luck stealing gold from Fort Knox than removing the titles from around the waists of The Queen of Spades and The Irresistible Force.
