Sasha Banks & Bayley and The IIconics interrupted Asuka before her match with Charlotte Flair
Raw Women’s Champion Asuka kicked off Monday Night Raw ready to take on Charlotte Flair. However, The Queen did not even get to make her grand entrance before newly-crowned WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley interrupted her and graced Raw with their presence. The Queen arrived next, ready to shoo away the champions and start her match with The Empress of Tomorrow.
Billie Kay & Peyton Royce entered the arena next, trying to get one last dig at the champions ahead of their Triple Threat Match this Sunday at WWE Backlash. The tension in the ring eventually blew up into a six-woman brawl where Asuka and Flair fought off both of the interrupting teams, setting the stage for a huge Tag Team Triple Threat Match.
Asuka & Charlotte Flair def. The IIconics and Sasha Banks & Bayley
Despite being the least experienced team in the match (and expecting to be facing each other at this point), Asuka and Flair proved to be the most focused team in this Triple Threat Match. The Queen and The Empress picked up the win when Asuka forced Billie Kay to tap out to the Asuka Lock. Their alliance was short-lived, however, as The Queen dropped the Raw Women’s Champion after the bell, letting her know that things wouldn’t be so friendly when they squared off one-on-one later in the evening.
Rey Mysterio vowed to make Seth Rollins pay
Rey Mysterio joined Monday Night Raw to give an update on his status – his doctors are not ready to clear him, but his recovery from the gruesome injury Seth Rollins inflicted is looking promising.
However, Rollins was on hand for the interview. He told the masked man he had everything wrong and invited him to Raw next week to clear the air. Mysterio said he’d be back when he was ready and cleared, but it wouldn’t be to sit down and talk with Rollins; it would be to get retribution. But before Rollins could let that set in, Aleister Black pounced on The Monday Night Messiah and pummeled Rollins as the show went to commercial.
Aleister Black & Humberto Carrillo def. Murphy & Austin Theory
Aleister Black & Humberto Carrillo once again fought for Mysterio’s honor against Rollins’ disciples and picked up the victory after Black pinned Murphy. But The Monday Night Messiah had the last word. Rollins distracted the victors by wearing the mask he took from Mysterio, allowing Murphy & Theory to unleash a ruthless attack that was capped off with a Stomp to Black. Rollins’ message was clear: Stay out of his way or become the next sacrifice.
Randy Orton promised to break Edge at WWE Backlash
What looked to be a joyful reunion of the duo that reeks of awesomeness took an interesting turn when Christian expressed doubt in The Rated-R Superstar ahead of The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever this Sunday at WWE Backlash.
But when Edge seemingly agreed with his longtime friend, Captain Charisma dug deep to motivate his former tag team partner, letting Edge know that he and the WWE Universe believe he’s as good as he’s ever been. But the motivation got under the skin of Randy Orton, who sought to sow doubt in his rival, vowing to humiliate Edge and put an end to his redemption story. After this heart-to-heart with Christian, though, The Rated-R Superstar seemed to finally believe in himself and stood in defiance of The Viper’s words.
The Decathlon between The Street Profits & The Viking Raiders ended in a 5-5 tie
With the “Anything You Can Do, We Can Do Better” series tied at two wins a piece, Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits and The Viking Raiders agreed to settle the score in a Decathlon. Each team got to select five events to truly test the other.
After a grueling competition that included a 1600-meter dash, a sword fight (Montez Ford didn’t want that smoke and forfeited), a dance-off, and flip cup, among others, “Air” Ivar’s surprising success in the pole vault led to the Decathlon ending in a 5-5 tie. With the series still deadlocked, will either of these two tandems prove they’re better than the other?
Andrade def. Angel Garza and Kevin Owens to earn a United States Championship Match at WWE Backlash
Kevin Owens got a measure of payback before the start of this battle, blindsiding Andrade and Angel Garza as they made their entrance. But once the bell rang, KO found himself at the mercy of his opponents, as they teamed up to take out Owens. But the alliance did not last long, as Andrade and Garza were soon sniping at each other, which turned into a shoving match at ringside that saw Zelina Vega get caught in the crossfire. It looked as though Owens had the upper hand after hitting The Lethal Lothario with a Stunner, but Andrade kicked Owens out of the way and pinned his tag team partner to earn a United States Title Match this Sunday at WWE Backlash.
Bobby Lashley & MVP def. The Viking Raiders
It was power meets power when Erik & Ivar clashed with The All Mighty & MVP. But even though they had WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and The Street Profits cheering them on from ringside, Erik could not escape Lashley’s fearsome Full Nelson.
Ivar nearly met the same fate, but he was assisted by Ford & Dawkins, who had trouble breaking The All Mighty’s unbelievable grip. However, they turned Lashley him right into a Claymore from McIntyre. Will that be Lashley’s fate when he challenges McIntyre for the WWE Championship this Sunday at WWE Backlash?
Charlotte Flair def. Asuka
Despite their loss earlier in the night, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley joined the commentary team to take a closer look at The Queen and The Empress of Tomorrow battle in the main event. The IIconics also took a keen interest in this match, watching from behind the plexiglass at ringside.
Neither competitor held back as they brawled around ringside, where Flair tossed Asuka over the announcers’ desk, and The IIconics attacked Banks & Bayley.
Both Superstars threw everything they had at each other in a hard-hitting battle, but Nia Jax played spoiler for her WWE Backlash opponent. As soon as The Irresistible Force arrived, Asuka turned her attention toward her challenger. That would be The Empress’ undoing, as she soon turned around right into a boot from Flair that spelled victory for The Queen. After the bell, Jax planted Asuka into the canvas with a thunderous Samoan Drop. Will that be the case when they square off for the Raw Women’s Title this Sunday at WWE Backlash?
