Who should answer Cena's open challenge for the United States Title?
Since winning the United States Title at WrestleMania, John Cena has once again established himself as a true fighting champion. In addition to accepting Rusev’s challenge for a rematch at Extreme Rules, the Cenation leader has established the John Cena U.S. Open — a self-imposed test that, so far, has produced two great title matches against Dean Ambrose and Stardust. But, that begs the question: Who should respond to Cena's open challenge next?
One of our top picks would have to be Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan. A champion-versus-champion showdown on Raw or SmackDown? Where do we sign up?! Plus, considering the explosive history between these two Superstars — highlighted by an epic WWE Title Match at SummerSlam 2013 — the WWE Universe would be in for quite a ride.
Then again, after he fell short in the WWE World Heavyweight Title No. 1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match on Raw this week, just imagine a very dangerous Roman Reigns — a Superstar who Cena himself recently praised during his interview with Chris Jericho on WWE Network — stepping through the crowd to take on the Cenation leader. The Big Dog fears no man, and neither he nor the reigning U.S. Champion would back down an inch.
Perhaps Sheamus should answer the call, fella! After all, it was the United States Title that The Celtic Warrior held just prior to suffering the injury that put him on the shelf for months — the very same injury that allowed him to find a deeper level of aggression and a pretty furious new look, to boot. Certainly, Sheamus and The Champ also have their own historic clashes, too. After all, it was the Irish Superstar who defeated Cena twice for the WWE Title.
Several other Superstars come to mind. While Ambrose and Stardust have already tried their luck, what about the other competitors that helped make the Intercontinental Ladder Match so incredible on The Grandest Stage of Them All? For that matter, after winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, how about Big Show? Never forget, it was the giant who lost the United States Title to Cena at The Show of Show in 2004. That alone could set the stage for the world’s largest payback.
With so many other Superstars thirsty for a title opportunity, the number of potential opponents is staggering. Yet, one thing is certain: The Champ is here, and he is ready to take on any and all challengers.
