Team 2.0 def. Team Black & Gold
In a battle for the very soul of NXT, Team 2.0 appeared to usher in a new era by overcoming Team Black & Gold in a jaw-dropping, brutal matchup for the ages.
The self-proclaimed “Leader of the New School” NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes stepped into the ring first for Team 2.0 against Team Black & Gold's Johnny Gargano who was shockingly competing in a WarGames Match for the first time. As the battle began, Gargano and Hayes' respective teammates waited locked in the cage and prepared to jump into the action.
The fast-paced early moments ended in Gargano hurling his opponent off the ropes. Grayson Waller joined the fray for 2.0, and as if that wasn't enough, Trick Williams threw a chair over the wall of the cage, which only served to add to the 2-on-1 advantage for Hayes & Waller.
Pete Dunne looked to change that in a hurry when he entered next and wasted no time dishing out the pain including bending Waller's digits in the unforgiving steel of the cage, before he and Gargano locked in twin Crossfaces on their foes.
Tony D'Angelo entered next, and tables, trash cans, Kendo sticks, and even a crowbar entered with him. This came with the further assist from Trick Williams, who continued to be an effective extra man outside the ring until Dexter Lumis suddenly emerged from under the ring to neutralize him.
Meanwhile, D'Angelo chained the cage door shut so that LA Knight couldn't get in to help his teammates when the time came. This backfired, though, when Knight decided to climb the cage, a move that only added to his fury once he entered the action. Together with his teammates, and every foreign object they could get their hands on, Team Black and Gold punished their foes.
The officials managed to get some bolt cutters to try and break the lock, but it was Bron Breakker who finally shattered the chains and entered to completely turn the tables of the contest by sending bodies flying in every direction.
Lastly, it was NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa's turn to enter. This signaled the official start to the WarGames, as he went after everyone in sight with trash can lid in hand.
From there matters descended into complete bedlam, with the advantage quickly moving back-and-forth from Team Black & Gold to Team 2.0. During the ensuing melee, Hayes got catapulted through a trash can, Knight hurled Waller through a table from off the tope rope, Ciampa drove Breakker off the top rope to flatten a trash can, and Waller made an earth-shattering leap off the top of the cage to flatten Knight on the table with a flying elbow.
Dunne went on to brutalize Hayes with a Kendo stick before D'Angelo attacked The BrusierWeight with a crowbar and took his protective mouth guard as a souvenir before driving him down to the canvas from the top rope.
In the height of the action, Gargano and Ciampa worked together to nearly put away Breakker, but Hayes saved the pin at the last second. Ciampa gained the advantage over Hayes but before he could finish him off, Breakker drove him through a table to set up his signature lift and Powerslam to pin the NXT Champion!
