Tony D’Angelo def. Tommaso Ciampa
Tony D’Angelo made a grand entrance alongside his new paisano and former General Manager of the infamous Danbury Trashers from the “Netflix Untold: Crime & Penalties” documentary AJ Galante. Tommaso Ciampa was unphased by the antics and approached the ring with the ferocity that defined his career in NXT. Rumors of his NXT run coming to a close had been swirling, but The Blackheart was focused on one thing: crushing the spirit of his brash challenger.
D’Angelo didn’t waste the opportunity to deliver some trash talking and declare the ring his own. The taunts incensed Ciampa, who chopped away at the loudmouthed Superstar and unleashed a beatdown.
When D’Angelo got back on his heels, he reached for his trusty crowbar, and even a missed swing distracted the official enough to allow D’Angelo to blast Ciampa with an uppercut below the belt. The ensuing slam resulted in a near-fall, but Ciampa nearly wrote the perfect final chapter. Much to the shock of Ciampa and the WWE Universe, however, D’Angelo kicked out from the Fairytale Ending.
As the action spilled to the outside, D’Angelo was in his element and hit a DDT that sent Ciampa straight into the exposed flooring. D’Angelo threw Ciampa back into the ring and landed one more swift kick to earn the victory and crown himself “The Don of NXT.” With Ciampa’s fate seemingly sealed on NXT, the NXT Universe and then Triple H gave one of the brand’s most accomplished Superstars a well-deserved ovation.
