HOUSTON -- After countless aerial maneuvers and one devastating Frog Splash, Chavo Guerrero stood tall the same way he came in: as Cruiserweight Champion of the World. The win over Jimmy Wang Yang comes as the climax of an intense rivalry that has burned in the cruiserweight division for months.
"There is nobody more experienced than the Guerreros," Chavo said. "How long has Jimmy Wang Yang been in sports-entertainment, five years?"
Yang has been hot in recent weeks, presenting a threat to Guerrero's reign. Just two days before the Night of Champions, however, the tables turned when the Cruiserweight Champion and Jamie Noble picked up a win over Yang & Shannon Moore. Guerrero rode that momentum and finished the job on Sunday.
"I'm a champion and it would be ridiculous to leave a working man's championship out of the picture when you've got all the other titles, which to me aren't as prestigious as the Cruiserweight Championship," Guerrero said.
Chavo was only sorry that the match wasn't the main event of the evening.
"Chavo Guerrero's more of an athlete than any other person on the WWE roster," he boasted. Whether that's true or not, there is no denying that he has proved he deserves that Cruiserweight Championship.
