On Thursday, WWE and 2K announced the details of a multi-year extension between the recognized leader in global entertainment and the world-renowned video game publisher. The working relationship between WWE and 2K, which dates back to 2013, helped usher in an exciting new era of WWE video games. The WWE 2K franchise, which introduced its latest installment in late 2015 with WWE 2K16, drew substantial praise as it successfully recreated the WWE Universe in virtual form for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gaming consoles. WWE SuperCard, which launched in August 2014, boasts more than 9 million downloads to date on iOS and Android devices as well as solid reviews from critics and fans alike.
Given their recent run of success, it only made sense for the partnership between WWE and 2K to continue.
“2K’s leadership in authenticity, quality and overall brand dedication has been a perfect complement for WWE,” said Casey Collins, WWE Executive Vice President, Consumer Products. “Our continued partnership ensures WWE remains at the forefront of global video game brands as we continue innovating and publishing our offerings on multiple platforms.”
According to a press release, financial terms of the new agreement were not disclosed.
