Mr. McMahon was on cloud nine on March 26, 2001. He believed he had purchased WCW and was in the ring, detailing his plans for his former competition.
Shane McMahon surprised his father by purchasing WCW out from under him. Shane said he was coming after his father and that WCW would be back on top of sports-entertainment soon.
WCW's invasion picked up steam at King of the Ring 2001, when WCW Champion Booker T attacked WWE Champion "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
The night after King of the Ring, WCW star Mike Awesome ambushed WWE Hardcore Champion Rhyno in the bowels of Madison Square Garden.
Taking advantage of the 24/7 rule, Awesome forced the referee to count the fall.
