As animosity increased during several encounters on SmackDown, Knight pinned the U.S. Champion during a Money in the Bank Triple Threat Qualifying Match after getting an assist from New York Knicks star player Jalen Brunson, resulting in a title fight being scheduled for SummerSlam.
