WWE raises more than $200,000 to benefit families of fallen NYC heroes

STAMFORD, Conn. – WWE has raised $213,000 with Answer The Call for the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.

As part of WWE’s community outreach initiatives during SummerSlam week in New York City, the company partnered with Charitybuzz.com for an online auction that featured 40 unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences with WWE Superstars and Divas, as well other sports and entertainment celebrities.

“We are honored that WWE chose to support Answer The Call for the families of New York City’s fallen first responders,” said Mark Messier, Vice President of Community Affairs for the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund. “Through this partnership, we collectively raised more than $200,000, which will ensure that we continue to provide a network of support and financial assistance for those who have lost a loved one in the line of duty.”

“We are thankful to the athletes, celebrities and fans, all of whom came together to support the families of New York’s Bravest and Finest – true heroes who selflessly serve the citizens of this great city,” said Stephanie McMahon, WWE Chief Brand Officer. “WWE has a rich history in New York, from WrestleMania 1 to WrestleMania 29 to this year’s SummerSlam, and it is especially meaningful for WWE to give back so close to home.”

Proceeds from this auction will provide assistance to the families of New York City Police Officers, Firefighters, Port Authority Police and EMS Personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
