Dolph Ziggler def. The Miz to become the new Intercontinental Champion

LOS ANGELES — Intercontinental Champion The Miz may have felt that he (and his Moneymaker) had the home field advantage in Hollywood, but there was no stopping the determined Dolph Ziggler at The Biggest Party of The Summer. The Showoff finally got his hands on The Miz with the championship at stake at SummerSlam and made the most of his golden opportunity, connecting with a thunderous Zig Zag to capture the Intercontinental Title!

In front of a sold-out STAPLES Center crowd packed with celebrities like Extra’s Maria Menounos, ESPN’s Michelle Beadle, former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette and more, the star of “The Marine 4” boldly proclaimed that he would extinguish the star of Dolph Ziggler. That only fired The Showoff up more. Ziggler pounced on the champion from the opening bell, trying to pummel The Miz’s Moneymaker, just as he’d been attempting to do since Battleground, when The Awesome One sneakily dumped him from the Battleground Battle Royal for the vacant championship.

The Awesome One was able to wriggle free from Ziggler’s clutches and regroup, eventually hurling The Showoff chest first into the turnbuckles and taking control of the bout. Ziggler found his second wind and fought back to his feet, finally connecting with a strong right hand and superkick to The Moneymaker.

The Miz tried to grab the Intercontinental Championship and run off into the Hollywood night, but there was no escaping the furious Showoff. Though The Awesome One trapped Ziggler in the Figure Four Leg Lock, the WWE Universe willed the resilient Showoff on to grab the ropes. Ziggler bounced back and hit the Famouser, only for The Miz to rebound and hit his finishing maneuver, the Skull Crushing Finale for an extremely close two count.

The Intercontinental Champion stayed on the attack, trying to land a big boot to the downed challenger. Ziggler had enough about him to evade the kick and counter with the Zig Zag to win the match and his second Intercontinental Championship!

After a long month of trying to get his hands on The Miz and the Intercontinental Title, Ziggler left The Awesome One throwing a tantrum at ringside as he showed off his newly won championship for the Los Angeles crowd and the global audience watching on WWE Network to see.
