Is this the end of Gold & Stardust?

Trouble in the cosmos, as Gold & Stardust try to coexist against The Showoff and The Big Guy.

The last couple weeks have not been kind to Gold & Stardust, as the brothers have found themselves stuck in a frustrating losing streak. In the course of it all, the painted Superstars no longer seem to be on the same page — or even the same galaxy for that matter — inside the squared circle. Both men have shown a puzzling lack of trust in recent contests, with each taking turns forcing themselves into matches with unnecessary tags. But is this new riff nothing more than normal brotherly friction? Or is it the beginning of the end for the former WWE Tag Team Champions?

The bizarre duo’s most recent defeat at the hands of Dolph Ziggler & Ryback on the Feb. 5 edition of SmackDown saw Stardust walk out on his older brother, leaving him to get Shell Shocked by The Big Guy. Is the starry-eyed Superstar ready to walk out on his big brother for good? It certainly looked that way based on his actions Thursday night on SmackDown.

Then again, one has to ask whether the bizarre tag team might simply be working their way through a brotherly discord to come out the other side stronger than ever. All sibling competitors, from The Hardy Boyz to The Bella Twins, have had their love tested to its fullest extent and always returned to family. So while some might say that we are witnessing the beginning of the end for the golden duo, it may just prove nothing more than a sibling spat for the cosmic tandem.

Whatever is going on, Stardust’s actions Thursday night are likely to only make things worse. Maybe the older, wiser Goldust can get control of what appears to be a sinking ship. But what if The Bizarre One is also fed up? Could we see the veteran Superstar retaliate against his younger sibling’s SmackDown transgression? Or will he pull him back down to earth?

Stardust: "Don't ever call me Cody again!"

All may not be lost, however, as the duos dad Dusty Rhodes tweeted reassurance to WWE fans that his sons will work this out. If anyone knows if the Rhodes brothers will get through this, it would be their father. It’s important to note, however, that the WWE Hall of Famer’s tweet came before Stardust walked out on his brother Thursday night.

Whether Gold & Stardust’s recent troubles can be chalked up to a sibling drama, competitive tag team partners frustrated with losing or something deeper, only time will tell if a breakup is written in the stars for the talented tag team partners. Don’t miss Raw this Monday night at 8/7c to see what’s next for Gold & Stardust.
