SmackDown Five-Point Preview: Feb. 01, 2013

How will Alberto Del Rio answer Big Show’s brutal Raw assault?

Big Show seeks out revenge on Alberto Del Rio following their World Heavyweight Championship Last Man Standing Match at Royal Rumble 2013.

On Raw, the WWE Universe bore witness to one of the most contemptible attacks in recent memory, as Big Show laid waste to both World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio and his compadre Ricardo Rodriguez. After trapping Del Rio on the ropes with duct tape, The World’s Largest Athlete proceeded to take out his frustrations over losing his World Title rematch at Royal Rumble on Ricardo, before knocking the World Heavyweight Champion out cold with the KO Punch.

While it’s certain that Del Rio will attempt to make Big Show answer for his actions, the question of how the Mexican champion will do that remains. One thing’s for sure, though: The giant has made an already heated rivalry very, very personal, and now the possible repercussions have been amplified.

What does Booker T have planned for the World Heavyweight Title?

Monday night on Raw, SmackDown General Manager Booker T said he had big news concerning the World Heavyweight Championship, leaving the blue brand faithful to wonder: To what was Booker alluding? With Elimination Chamber fast approaching and 2013 Royal Rumble Match winner John Cena already making it clear he will challenge the WWE Champion at WrestleMania, does Booker have something big up his sleeve for that all-important pay-per-view on The Road to WrestleMania?

An Elimination Chamber Match with the title at stake, perhaps? Or maybe a monumental Friday night main event, pitting World Champion Alberto Del Rio against one of the many formidable SmackDown challengers that currently stand before him?

Find out just what Booker’s got in mind tonight, only on Syfy!

In a week of blockbuster returns, who, if anyone, might be coming back to SmackDown?

Chris Jericho, Goldust and The Godfather all made their surprising returns to WWE Sunday during the Royal Rumble Match. In particular, Y2J had a major impact on both the pay-per-view and on Mr. Money in the Bank, Dolph Ziggler. Then, one day later, Brock Lesnar — who unceremoniously quit WWE months ago — shocked the world by showing up on Raw and brutalizing Mr. McMahon, sending The Chairman crashing to the canvas with an F-5 that will surely change the landscape of WWE.

Will a week of massive returns be capped off by another homecoming on SmackDown? Or will the likes of Jericho or Lesnar return to SmackDown as well, adding to their already incredible list of memorable marks on the blue brand.

How will The Shield respond to being connected to Paul Heyman?

2013 Royal Rumble Winner John Cena announces that he will face the WWE Champion at WrestleMania 29, but is then attacked by The Shield.

After Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns sent a major statement by attacking John Cena on Raw, the WWE Universe saw what were perhaps the first (and only) cracks in the hitherto mystery-shrouded trio — all due to Mr. McMahon’s video evidence, which revealed The Shield’s involvement in the affairs of Paul Heyman. ( WATCH) But how will they respond? Will their M.O. remain unchanged in light of Monday’s controversy, as they seek to dish out their own brand of “justice” by ruthlessly attacking Superstars of their choosing?

Or will the WWE Universe see a new side of The Shield?

What’s next for Team Rhodes Scholars?

After failing to claim Team Hell No’s WWE Tag Team Titles at Royal Rumble, where does the erudite duo of Damien Sandow & Cody Rhodes go next? As any of the plethora of talented tag teams in WWE can attest, reaching the top of that ever-growing division can be a long, hard road. And now that Team Rhodes Scholars coughed up their No. 1 contenders’ status at the January classic, how will the talented (but obnoxious) tandem get back on their game and ahead of the pack?

Just what will The Road to WrestleMania look like for Sandow & Rhodes? Find out tonight on SmackDown!
