ORLANDO, Fla. - On paper, the victors may have seemed obvious since The Dudley Boyz are the most decorated tag team in sports-entertainment history. However, at the Royal Rumble Kickoff, Jack Swagger & Mark Henry picked up the win in a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match that secured them a place in the Royal Rumble Match for the All-American collegiate and The World's Strongest Man.
Swagger & Henry were forced to fend off not only The Dudley Boyz, but also The Ascension as well as Darren Young & Damien Sandow. With tensions running high, The All-American American jumped into the ring first for his team. Eventually animosities boiled over, and all four teams stormed the ring. Shortly after the official took control of the match and brought the ring action back to just two teams, Bubba Ray nearly pinned Viktor, until Swagger broke things up at the two-count. It was the first of two occasions that The All-American American would interrupt a pending three-count; the second time, however, allowed his partner Henry to take full advantage. The World’s Strongest Man tagged in and leveraged his considerable weight and power against Viktor for the win.
Though victory in a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match to kick off the Royal Rumble would certainly produce an abundance of laurels to rest upon, Swagger and Henry were far from content. The win meant that each Superstar had their ticket punched to the Royal Rumble Match itself, and would compete to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
