Raw results: Big Show KOs his foes; Shawn Michaels backs Triple H at SummerSlam

SAN ANTONIO – About the only thing hotter than the triple-digit temperatures scorching San Antonio was the palpable intensity throughout Monday night's three-hour Raw. Why did WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels potentially change the complexion of Triple H's match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam? And how did Big Show stop WWE Champion CM Punk from closing the show as the lone commanding Superstar once again? Find out the answers to these questions and more in WWE.com's results, photos and videos of all the action on Raw. ( WATCH HIGHLIGHTS)

AJ Lee allowed the WWE Universe to pick WWE Champion CM Punk's opponent for Raw
Raw General Manager AJ Lee kicked off the night by announcing two big matches for Raw: Randy Orton vs. Big Show and John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan. As she was about to announce another match, WWE Champion CM Punk's music blared and The Straight Edge Superstar came out to the ring to apologize for letting the emotions get the better of him when he angrily confronted AJ last week on Raw. After the Raw GM accepted his apology, Punk told AJ she made a mistake by putting him a Triple Threat Match at SummerSlam and urged her to cancel the bout against Cena and Big Show, but the Raw GM refused to comply. The WWE Champion accused AJ of just trying to get back at him for when he rejected her marriage proposal in front of the whole WWE Universe. ( PHOTOS)

Before Punk could plead further, John Cena interrupted The Second City Savior and called him out for turning into someone who demands respect instead of just commanding it. Punk fired back at the Cenation leader, telling Cena that he deserves the right to complain about being disrespected. After Punk and Cena exchanged some more harsh words, Big Show tried to enter the fray, but AJ stopped him dead in his tracks and said she wasn't going to let things get out of hand on her show. The Raw GM told Cena and Big Show they have matches to get ready for, and then revealed Punk also has a match of his own tonight — against an opponent of the WWE Universe's choosing from the following choices: Rey Mysterio, Kane or The Miz. AJ has quickly proven that she's not afraid to embrace the power of RAWactive now that she's in charge.

WWE Champion CM Punk def. Rey Mysterio in a Non-Title Match (RAWactive Match)

The WWE Universe votes for Rey Mysterio to be CM Punk's opponent.

Forty-seven percent of the WWE Universe voted for Rey Mysterio to face CM Punk, and The Ultimate Underdog didn't let his faithful followers down in a fierce back-and-forth battle in the first match of the night. The Straight Edge Superstar used his size advantage early on to punish Mysterio, unleashing a flurry of kicks and dropping him with a thunderous superplex. Mysterio rallied back with his high-flying arsenal, however, hitting Punk with a seated senton off the top ropes, and sent the WWE Champion tumbling with a 619 right on the money. But when Mysterio went for a big splash off the top rope, Punk lifted his knees into Rey's gut and drilled him with a Go to Sleep for the victory. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

Could Wade Barrett be returning soon?
An intriguing video was shown featuring bare-knuckle brawlers with Wade Barrett's distinctive voice stating that the "Barrett Barrage has only begun." Is Barrett about to make his anticipated return soon after being sidelined nearly six months due to injury? ( VIDEO)

Alberto Del Rio def. Christian

AJ puts Alberto Del Rio in a match against the former Intercontinental Champion Christian.

Despite cruising into the arena in a magnificent Ferrari, Alberto Del Rio was forced to leave the luxury car in the back as he had only minutes to prepare for an impromptu match after he insulted Raw General Manager AJ Lee. The Mexican Aristocrat tried to take his aggression out on Christian in the ring, but Captain Charisma was fully ready for the challenge. Christian hit a flying crossbody off the top rope on Del Rio and pulled off a couple of nice reversals before Ricardo Rodriguez eventually swung the momentum of the bout with a timely distraction. With the ref's eyed peeled away from the action, Del Rio smacked Christian in the head with his boot and made him quickly submit to the Cross Armbreaker. If you're keeping track, that makes two weeks in a row where we've seen a shoe used as a surprisingly dangerous weapon. Watch out for fearsome footwear on Raw! ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

Sheamus drove off in Alberto Del Rio's Ferrari
As Del Rio celebrated his victory, Sheamus appeared on the TitanTron next to a familiar luxury automobile. With the keys still in Del Rio's Ferrari backstage, The Great White told his SummerSlam opponent he'd be taking his prized possession for a "sightseeing tour" around San Antonio. Del Rio could only watch in utter disgust as Sheamus sped off in the pricey sports car.

Later in the show, Sheamus Touted some videos from the road, including on-location updates from the famous Alamo and a Mexican restaurant. By the time The Celtic Warrior had returned Del Rio's Ferrari to the arena, it was an absolute mess and was coated in Mexican food and trash. That'll surely put a dent in the resale value. (WATCH: SHEAMUS TOUTS HIS JOYRIDE IN DEL RIO'S CAR | FOLLOW SHEAMUS ON TOUT)

Randy Orton vs. Big Show ended in a Double Count-Out

Randy Orton goes one-on-one with the monstrous Big Show.

Randy Orton and Big Show pulled no punches with both Superstars in a hostile mood and out to assert their presence on Raw. The Viper cornered Big Show early on with clotheslines and punches, but The World's Largest Athlete planted Orton with a sidewalk slam and taunted him as he inflicted more punishment. After Orton kicked out following a mighty Chokeslam, Big Show dumped The Apex Predator to the outside repeatedly and the fight spilled to the arena floor.

On the outside, Orton turned the tables on Big Show and went for the RKO before Big Show nailed him with a spear and both Superstars were counted out. Big Show tried to knock out Orton with a WMD following the match, but Orton stunned him with an RKO and stood triumphantly despite the double count-out result. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

Ryback def. Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins

Ryback must compete against the tough duo of Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins.

Ryback welcomed Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins to the "food chain" before their Handicap Match, but they didn't go willingly. After Ryback delivered some crushing blows on the duo, Reks caught Ryback with a big boot and appeared to weaken the beastly Superstar with a combination of power maneuvers. Using quick tags, Hawkins and Reks double-teamed Ryback with a big front suplex and stayed on the attack. Ryback would not be worn down, however, as he nearly took Hawkins' head off with a vicious clothesline, then drilled him into the canvas with Shell Shocked for the victory. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

Primo & Epico def. Prime Time Players

A.W. leads his team to battle against Epico & Primo.

A.W. and the Prime Time Players talked a big game from the get-go and backed it up in the ring early in the matchup. But Epico mounted a rally and planted Darren Young with a trio of back suplexes before A.W. tried to pull his clients totally out of the matchup — a familiar ploy from the owner of All World Promotions. Just as it looked like the Prime Time Players were going to wriggle their way out of trouble, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth appeared at the top of the entrance ramp to stop Young & Titus O'Neil and send them backpedaling to the ring. Primo then rolled Young back into the ring, hit the Backstabber and pulled off the upset thanks to a little help from the WWE Tag Team Champions. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

Brodus Clay vs. Damien Sandow ended in a No Contest

Damien Sandow attacks Brodus Clay before their match and severely injures Clay's knee.

Brodus Clay was raring for the opportunity to get payback on Damien Sandow, but The Funkasaurus didn't even make it down the entrance ramp. Sandow leveled Brodus from behind as he danced his way to the ring, then stomped on Clay's left leg repeatedly, seemingly intent on proving a point — and perhaps breaking The Funkasaurus' limb. As boos rained down from the WWE Universe, Sandow extended his arms and exclaimed, "You're welcome!" As officials tended to the injured Brodus, the self-professed "Intellectual Savior of the Masses" taunted Brodus some more, telling him that he brought this upon himself. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

AJ announced Daniel Bryan will face Kane at SummerSlam
Daniel Bryan told Raw General Manager AJ Lee that after he defeats John Cena tonight, she'll have to turn the WWE Title Triple Threat Match at SummerSlam into a Fatal 4-Way Match. However, AJ informed Bryan that he already has a match at SummerSlam — against The Big Red Monster, Kane — to which the submission specialist responded with a defiant "No! No! No!" ( MATCH PREVIEW)

Kelly Kelly def. Eve

Kelly Kelly returns to Raw to face her former friend Eve.

Kelly Kelly surprised Eve with some early aggression, sending her to the outside to regroup. Kelly Kelly followed with a flying crossbody off the top rope before Eve resorted to some dirty tactics to take control of the matchup, and then wore her down with a chokehold. Out of nowhere, however, Kelly Kelly found her second wind and hit Eve with a dazzling hurricanrana for the victory. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

Shawn Michaels revealed he will be in Triple H's corner at SummerSlam

Brock Lesnar confronts Shawn Michaels in the ring for the first time on Raw.

Embracing a warm ovation from the San Antonio crowd, Shawn Michaels thanked the WWE Universe for allowing him to be part of the D-Generation X reunion at the 1,000th episode of Raw. The Heartbreak Kid then began to talk about the match at SummerSlam between Brock Lesnar and Triple H, but before he could share his thoughts, Brock's entrance music rocked the AT&T Center. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

After accompanying Brock to the ring, Paul Heyman told HBK that Brock does not want to entertain at SummerSlam. Rather, he seeks to pummel The Game and prove he is the "baddest dude on the planet today." Michaels claimed that any other time, Lesnar would be the favorite in the matchup, but Heyman tilted the odds by making things personal with The King of Kings. The Showstopper then revealed he will be in Triple H's corner at SummerSlam to watch his longtime ally defeat Lesnar.

Brock grabbed the microphone from Heyman and told Shawn that the only reason he thinks Triple H can beat Lesnar is because he's never been in the ring with him — until now. The Game didn't stand for Lesnar's bullying as he charged out and exchanged a heated staredown with Lesnar. The behemoth proceeded to back off from a potential physical exchange, but issued a warning to HBK, telling him that he'd see him before SummerSlam.

Alex Riley def. Dolph Ziggler

Chris Jericho Touts from the commentary table during Dolph Ziggler's match against Alex Riley.

Dolph Ziggler was definitely fired up by his newfound rival Chris Jericho's trash talk from the announce booth. The Showoff repeatedly took his eyes off Alex Riley as he turned to taunt Jericho following an emphatic dropkick and his other maneuvers. Jericho escalated the exchange when he stood up on the announce booth to record a Tout of the match action, allowing Riley to capitalize with a quick rollup pin for the stunning upset. The visibly frustrated Ziggler and Jericho continued to trade verbal barbs, which provided more great Tout material for The Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla. Kane def. Intercontinental Champion The Miz in a Non-Title Match

Kane and The Miz square off on Raw.

In a match announced on Twitter by Raw General Manager AJ Lee, the remaining options from the earlier RAWactive poll squared off as Kane battled Intercontinental Champion The Miz. After The Awesome One tried to sap some of Kane's power by targeting his left leg, The Big Red Monster staggered The Miz by dropping him into the turnbuckle and followed with a crushing Chokeslam for the win. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

John Cena def. Daniel Bryan

John Cena and Daniel Bryan go one-on-one for the first time ever on Raw.

Members of the WWE Universe didn't listen to Daniel Bryan when he demanded they stop chanting "Yes!" Instead, the crowd only seemed to shout it louder as the extremely aggravated Superstar faced John Cena one-on-one for the first time on Raw. ( PHOTOS | VIDEO)

The Cenation leader grounded Bryan early on, but the submission specialist quickly turned the tables when Cena pursued him outside the ring. After landing a swift flying knee off the ring apron to Cena's face, Bryan continued to whip his opponent's midsection with hard kicks. Cena rallied back and appeared set to hit an Attitude Adjustment, but the resourceful Bryan slid off the Cenation leader's broad shoulders and locked in a guillotine chokehold with leg scissors.

After wearing Cena down with the submission maneuver, Bryan took to the air with a flying headbutt off the top rope and laced Cena's midsection with more vicious kicks. Remarkably, Cena rose back to his feet and locked in the STF, which Bryan reversed into the “No!” Lock. Refusing to submit, Cena powered out of the hold and sent Bryan crashing to the canvas with an AA to secure the thrilling win.

CM Punk was quick to spoil Cena's celebration, as he came out to the ring and held the WWE Championship above his head. Suddenly, Big Show rushed to the ring, but Cena saw him coming and shoved Punk out of the way. As Cena and The World's Largest Athlete tangled, Punk hit Big Show from behind, sending both men tumbling to the mat. The Straight Edge Superstar then turned his attention to the announce table, grabbing a headset and letting loose on Jerry "The King" Lawler again with a bitter tirade describing how this Raw would end the same way the last two did — with The Voice of the Voiceless standing tall and clutching his WWE Title.

Punk returned to the ring and moved to strike Big Show with a roundhouse kick to the head, but The World's Largest Athlete recovered and floored Punk with a WMD, then walloped Cena with a second knockout punch. With Punk's title now hanging over his shoulder, it was the mammoth Big Show — not the WWE Champion — who was standing tall as Raw went off the air this time.
