BOSTON — They didn’t exactly cruise to the win, but Cedric Alexander, Sin Cara & Lince Dorado sure as “Hell” proved their mettle to the WWE Universe in the six-man showcase that opened the Hell in a Cell Kickoff.
Battling three of their fellow Cruiserweight division stalwarts — Tony Nese, Drew Gulak & Ariya Daivari — was an uphill struggle for the fan-favorites, who were relatively untested as a three-man unit. In contrast, Nese & Gulak have teamed extensively since their debuts, and the built-in unity among their squad came in handy during several close calls.
More so than most Cruiserweight contests, the action unloaded at a fast and furious pace, and Nese seemed to swing the match by tossing Dorado over the top rope onto a brawling Alexader, Sin Cara, Gulak and Daivari. That softened Dorado up for a rotating assault from all three of his opponents until The Golden Lynx managed to reach Alexander. The entrance of Alexander energized his team into a triple topé attack, but Gulak managed to lock in a Dragon Sleeper to potentially steal the match. Dorado broke that up with a leg drop, instigating an all-out brawl among the Cruiserweights. When the dust cleared, Alexander withstood an outstanding effort from Gulak to finally execute the Lumbar Check for the win.
