AC/DC's ‘Black Ice' debuts at No. 1
Released globally on Oct. 20, AC/DC's Black Ice, is topping sales charts in 29 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, France, Argentina, Japan, Australia and more. The band's "Spoilin' for a Fight" is the official theme of WWE's Survivor Series, which airs live Sunday, Nov. 23, only on pay-per-view. (LISTEN)
In the United States alone, Black Ice has sold more than 780,000 units its first week, marking the band's first-ever debut entry at No. 1 on the album charts. More than 5 million copies of Black Ice have been shipped worldwide, combined with close to 5 million in catalog sales sold this year, the band is poised to sell more than 10 million units in 2008.
In the United States, Black Ice is sold exclusively at Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and www.acdc.com. The AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack, featuring master recordings from the band's famous 1991 performance at Donnington Castle in England, will also be sold exclusively by Wal-Mart and Sam's Club in November, and in selected European countries, beginning in early December. In addition, Columbia Records has partnered with Wal-Mart and MTV to create "AC/DC Rock Band Stores" in New York City's Times Square and in Los Angeles to give fans in the these cities fast access to the band's newest items.
"Rock ‘N' Roll Train," the first single from Black Ice, has topped U.S. Rock Radio charts since its release in early September. (WATCH) Sirius XM Radio is also celebrating this exciting new chapter in the band's history by creating "AC/DC Radio," a 24-hour station devoted to playing the band's classic rock songs and exclusive interviews with the band. AC/DC Radio will broadcast until Jan. 15.
The anticipation of Black Ice and AC/DC have ignited catalog sales. In the past eight weeks, AC/DC's catalog sales have exceeded 800,000 units worldwide. The first leg of the Black Ice World Tour kicked off this week in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and runs through April 23 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
