Rey Mysterio, John Morrison & Kofi Kingston def. The Miz, R-Truth & Alberto Del Rio
LOS ANGELES – Rey Mysterio, John Morrison & Kofi Kingston kicked off a monumental SummerSlam with a Six-Man Tag Team Match victory over The Miz, R-Truth & Alberto Del Rio. Just one night before he gets his rematch against the Undisputed WWE Champion on Raw (WATCH), Mysterio scored the big win for his team, pinning R-Truth. (PHOTOS)
The trio of The Miz, R-Truth & Del Rio seemed doomed from the start, wasting their energy before the match bragging, talking about conspiracies and interrupting one another. The Awesome One – who earlier this week attacked Mysterio on Raw, then seethed in a WWE.com Exclusive Video about not being involved in SummerSlam (WATCH) – took his anger to a new level in the sold-out STAPLES Center, but it wasn’t enough to help his disjointed team.
On the other hand, Mysterio, Morrison & Kingston worked together in harmony. After Morrison took out Del Rio outside the ring, and Kingston leapt over the top rope in a bold move to knock out The Miz, Mysterio hit R-Truth with a high-flying Frog Splash from the top rope to pin his opponent for the victory.
Mysterio not only earned retribution for The Miz’s attack on him less than a week prior, but he gained important momentum leading into one of his biggest matches when he faces the Undisputed WWE Champion – John Cena or CM Punk – in his hometown, San Diego, tomorrow night on Raw. Was this victory exactly what this high-energy Superstar needed to lead him to a possible fourth World Championship reign, beginning in the 619? Tune in to Monday Night Raw at 9/8 CT on USA Network!
