2006 saw one of the most star-studded SummerSlams in history, capped off by a raucous WWE Championship Match between John Cena and Edge. Before the fireworks exploded , DX clashed with Mr. McMahon & Shane McMahon in a match that saw a cavalcade of villains interfere on behalf of the McMahon Family. Legendary rivals Ric Flair and Mick Foley brawled in Boston during a vicious “I Quit” Match, while Hulk Hogan tried to avoid being the next name on “Legend Killer” Randy Orton’s list of conquests. SummerSlam 2006 also marked the first time the ECW Championship was defended at The Biggest Party of The Summer, when Big Show put his title on the line against the death-defying Sabu.
