Nearly 24,000 WWE fans were on hand inside Michigan’s Palace of Auburn Hills to celebrate a supremely patriotic edition of SummerSlam. The show was the culmination of No. 1 contender Lex Luger’s summer-long Lex Express bus tour. Despite the support of the masses, Luger faltered in his attempt to dethrone evildoing WWE Champion Yokozuna. Plus, Michigan natives and World Tag Team Champions Rick & Scott Steiner turned back Jim Cornette’s Heavenly Bodies, while Bret Hart was left to deal with the unsavory antics of Jerry “The King” Lawler and Doink the Clown.
