SmackDown Five-Point Preview: Mar. 22, 2013
Will Jericho even the score with Swagger?
Last week on SmackDown, Jack Swagger emerged victorious over Chris Jericho in an instant classic that thrilled the WWE Universe. Tonight, “The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla” gets a chance to even the score when he again goes head-to-head with a “Real American”!
The controversial Swagger is certainly a tall order, as the No. 1 contender to World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio has been dominant on The Road to WrestleMania. With the outspoken Zeb Colter by his side, perhaps the most brutal example of this came this past Monday on Raw, when he viciously snapped Ricardo Rodriguez’s ankle with the Patriot Lock.
Will Swagger add another broken ankle to his collection tonight? Not if six-time World Champion Jericho has anything to say about it. And Y2J always has something to say about it. Tune in tonight to see if he can get some payback and make “Jack Swagger’s America” see stars.
Can Orton & Sheamus trust Big Show?
Tonight on SmackDown — as reported earlier this week on WWE.com — Randy Orton and Sheamus will partner with Big Show in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. Could this uncertain alliance be a preview of the trio that will face The Shield at WrestleMania? Or will it all come crashing down in the flames of distrust?
Even though The World’s Largest Athlete came to Orton and Sheamus’ aid and stood with them against The Shield on the Monday’s Raw, the long and twisted history between the three Superstars suggests that working in harmony will be extremely difficult.
Will the latest name mispronunciation change Fandango’s tune?
Although he has his rematch with Jack Swagger tonight, a “Real American” isn’t the only Superstar who Chris Jericho has found himself cross ways with. During a backstage segment on Monday’s Raw, Y2J repeatedly and humorously mangled the name of “FAHN-DAHN-GO.”
With his outspoken insults, Jericho has effectively joined the likes of Lilian Garcia, The Great Khali and Natalya in not being able to say Fandango’s name to his liking. But perhaps Jericho’s Raw mockery might actually work to stimulate the ire of the Superstar, who has yet to compete, and finally get him to make his WWE debut, transforming him from the tango-dancing to two-stepping Superstar.
Will Ryback or Mark Henry strike next?
While the final participant in the WrestleMania Six-Man Tag Team Match is up in the air, one Show of Shows match of epic proportions is on for sure: Ryback vs. Mark Henry!
It’s a colossal contest that many members of the WWE Universe have eagerly anticipated, even more since The Shield prevented last week’s scheduled SmackDown clash between the two to never really got off the ground. That didn’t, however, stop The World’s Strongest Man from following up on the “Hounds of Justice’s” onslaught, dropping a downed “Human Wrecking Ball” with three devastating World’s Strongest Slams.
Neither Henry nor Ryback are the type to sit back and wait to dish out all-out mayhem. So the real question is: Will Ryback look to strike back tonight? Or will Henry try and add to last week’s destruction?
How will The Shield bring “justice” to SmackDown this week?
In recent weeks, Friday Night SmackDown has become a favorite launching pad for surprise attacks and bold declarations from The Shield. Week after week, the black-clad trio has made their menacing presence felt in their quest to cure WWE of injustice as they see it.
With The Shield’s Six-Man Tag Team Match against Randy Orton, Sheamus and a to-be-determined partner at WrestleMania 29 looming, what perpetrator of “injustice” might find themselves in the group’s crosshairs tonight on SmackDown?
