SmackDown Five-Point Preview: Feb. 15, 2013
How will The Rock respond to Punk’s WWE Title thievery?
WWE Champion The Rock was having a grand old time in Nashville, Tenn., Monday night, reminiscing to the Raw crowd about his youth spent in Music City. But the party came to sudden and unwanted end when former titleholder CM Punk charged The People’s Champion and an in-ring collision erupted. Thanks to the meddling of Paul Heyman, The Great One found himself face-up on the canvas, courtesy of a Go to Sleep from his challenger.
More importantly, the champion awoke without his championship gold, as Punk stole off into the night with the title in tow.
Now, with the two Superstars ready for a rematch at Elimination Chamber Sunday (where, if The Brahma Bull is counted out or disqualified, Punk wins the WWE Championship, by the way), The Rock is coming back to SmackDown. How will The Great One respond to The Straight Edge Superstar’s Monday night theft? Will the two rivals meet face-to-face on the blue brand? And come to think of it, just where is the WWE Title?
Can The Viper overcome The World’s Strongest Man?
After suffering a SmackDown loss one week ago to the recently returned Mark Henry, Randy Orton looks for retribution tonight on SmackDown. The Viper will square off against The World’s Strongest Man for the last time before the two competitors enter the Elimination Chamber Match to determine the No. 1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship Sunday night.
Can Orton deliver a little payback to his monstrous foe, and perhaps soften him up a bit before the pay-per-view? Or will Mark Henry get the best of WWE’s Apex Predator for the second week in a row and give himself major momentum heading into the dreaded Chamber?
Who will feel Big Show’s rage on the blue brand?
The World’s Largest Athlete may have been silent Monday night on Raw, but his actions spoke volumes as he laid waste to Yoshi Tatsu and Alex Riley before flooring Matt Striker with a KO Punch. You can bet Big Show’s got a whole lot on his mind heading into tonight’s SmackDown. But will the giant once again opt for silent aggression, or will there be fighting words heading into his title bout against World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio at Elimination Chamber?
Is The Miz marginalized?
United States Champion Antonio Cesaro stuck his nose into The Miz’s business Monday night, interfering in The Awesome One’s match against Cody Rhodes. The scary-strong Cesaro then went on to punish Miz, sending him crashing into the barrier at ringside in a ferocious display of power. For his part, The Awesome One certainly looked like a man who had just been bashed continuously into a ringside barrier, which begs the question — just how banged up is The Miz? Will he be well enough to take the fight to Cody again tonight?
And just how much of an advantage does this give the reigning titleholder heading into Sunday’s pay-per-view where the two rivals will face off with the U.S. Champion on the line?
Will Brodus & Tensai stay funky on SmackDown?
They’re one of the most unique tag teams in recent memory — and remember, Team Hell No coming together is in recent memory — but Brodus Clay & Tensai are fast becoming a popular and potentially powerful alliance. Brodus seems to think this thing has some legs, too, as evidenced by a Tout he sent earlier this week asking the WWE Universe to help name the dancing duo. ( GOT A NAME? TOUT IT OUT!)
Can the boogying big men keep the good times rolling and bring the funk to the blue brand as they square off against Heath Slater & Jinder Mahal?
