Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston def. Drew McIntyre
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- When faced with another challenge by the relentless Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston prevailed, retaining the Intercontinental Championship at Fatal 4-Way. Determined to have Theodore Long hand him back the Intercontinental Championship, McIntyre ordered the SmackDown General Manager watch him battle Kingston from ringside before the match began -- an order from WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon. McIntyre targeted Kingston's left arm throughout the match, as Long hopefully watched as Kingston forged ahead.
But when the WWE official was accidentally knocked out and unable to finish the match, The "Chosen One" insisted that Long get in the ring and wear the WWE referee's shirt. Long counted to two, but stood his ground, shaking his head and refusing to allow McIntyre to get the pin. Soon after, the suspended Matt Hardy emerged and hit McIntyre with a Twist of Fate, allowing Kingston to capitalize and pin McIntyre for the victory. Long smiled as he raised Kingston's arm in celebration.
Since relinquishing the Intercontinental Championship to Kofi Kingston at Over the Limit and falling to an attack by Matt Hardy, McIntyre was determined to win back the title and keep Hardy out of the picture. The "Chosen One" had Mr. McMahon suspend Hardy without pay, but that didn't stop Hardy from showing up to prevent McIntyre from winning back the Intercontinental Title.
On the final SmackDown before Fatal 4-Way, McIntyre humiliated Long in front of the WWE Universe. When Kingston emerged to help the SmackDown General Manager, McIntyre's security force held back the Intercontinental Champion, allowing an out-of-control McIntyre to mercilessly attack him. Hardy, who was suspended from all WWE programming, barreled into the arena to stop the Scottish Superstar. Security held back Hardy for McIntyre to assault him, too. Then McIntyre hit both Kingston and Hardy with double-under-hook DDTs in the ring. McIntyre humiliated everyone standing in his way, but that momentum still wasn't enough to earn him the Intercontinental Title at Fatal 4-Way.
Now that Kingston has successfully defended his title against McIntyre several times, is this the end of their intense rivalry?
