Baron Corbin def. Dolph Ziggler in a No Disqualification Match
NEWARK, N.J. — The No Disqualification Match during WWE’s Extreme Rules Kickoff proved to be the perfect playground for Baron Corbin’s ruthless behavior, as the no-nonsense Superstar resorted to a low blow en route to defeating Dolph Ziggler in their no-holds barred rubber match.
These bitter rivals’ conflict started on the Raw following WrestleMania 32, when The Lone Wolf unleashed an unrelenting attack against The Showoff. With the savvy Ziggler taking advantage of Corbin’s inexperience and cockiness at WWE Payback and the rookie competitor following up with a victory in their Raw rematch, their Extreme Rules Kickoff showdown gained considerable importance for both Superstars.
The contest started with both competitors jawing at one another before a fed-up Corbin shoved his opponent’s face. Ziggler, in return, landed a headbutt to the 2016 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner.
The match quickly moved to the outside floor with Corbin, a former NFL player, using his size and strength to gain the advantage, pulled his adversary face-first into the steel ring post. The intimidating Superstar continued his devastating attack back inside the squared circle before Ziggler turned the tables with his own up-tempo assault.
Delivering an array of clotheslines and elbows to his larger opponent, a fired-up Ziggler came within a second of picking up the victory on multiple occasions. Corbin, however, quickly shut down The Showoff’s offense with a commanding Deep Six maneuver. A second attempt at the powerful slam from Corbin, though, was countered into an emphatic DDT by Ziggler, who once again came within a split-second of the win.
An opportunistic Ziggler wasted no time continuing his attack, unleashing a hard-hitting combination of fists, elbows and headbutts. The former World Champion then went for the knockout blow, but missed a superkick. Corbin capitalized, taking advantage of the No Disqualification stipulation with a low blow to Ziggler before hitting his End of Days for the victory.
The Lone Wolf promised to “hurt” The Showoff in their No Disqualification showdown, and it appears he succeeded. The question now becomes, will we see Dolph Ziggler come back for more?
