Reaching new heights at WrestleMania X

Reaching new heights at WrestleMania X

What do two WWE Superstars do when each claim they're the true Intercontinental Champion? They settle it with steel ladders on sports-entertainment's grandest stage.

In the No. 8 'Mania Match That Made Us Sweat, Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon carried their title dispute over to WrestleMania X, both hanging their versions of WWE's Intercontinental Championship high above the ring at the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. The first man to remove both titles from the chain over the ring would be declared the true champion.

In the first-ever televised Ladder Match in WWE history, HBK and Ramon demonstrated amazing, albeit destructive, innovation and creativity with steel, using ladders to grab the titles overhead -- when they weren't utilizing them to incapacitate each other.

After referee Earl Hebner banished Michaels' bodyguard Diesel from the ring for interfering in the match, both combatants made attempts to reach the duel gold. But WWE's "Bad Guy" would find a way to send HBK violently crashing back to Earth by knocking out the ladder from underneath him.

In the end, with The Showstopper tangled in the ropes, Razor Ramon was able to climb the ladder and reach both titles to become the undisputed Intercontinental Champion. But for our fans, their contest would set the standard for all future Ladder Matches to come.
