Tony Nese accepted a new WWE contract offer from NXT General Manager William Regal on Sunday during an EVOLVE Wrestling event in Joppa, Md., WWE.com has learned.
Nese, known as “The Premier Athlete,” made a huge impact in WWE since joining the field of 32 in the Cruiserweight Classic this past summer. Setting out to prove he belonged in WWE, Nese impressed in the tournament, picking up a first-round win in dominating fashion. He was invited to Raw in the fall to be a part of the Cruiserweight Division, where he made an immediate splash, taking then-champion TJ Perkins to the limit and defeating Rich Swann in singles action, while pummeling the opposition with Drew Gulak in tag team action.
With the Cruiserweight Division set to take flight on Tuesday nights during WWE Network’s 205 Live and the contract he’s been working his entire career for, the WWE Universe can be assured that Tony Nese will have his sights set on capturing the Cruiserweight Championship right out of the gate.
