Sting retires at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony
DALLAS – Standing before former rivals, current Superstars and legions of fans as he gave his speech as the newest inductee to the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016, one night before WrestleMania 32, Sting stunned the WWE Universe by announcing that he has officially retired from the squared circle.
"I just want you to know that this isn’t goodbye," Sting said as he pulled out his trademark sunglasses and baseball bat. "It's see you later.'"
Although it was a tearful moment, there wasn’t a more perfect way for The Icon to hang up his boots. After accomplishing virtually everything there is to do in a business that he succeeded in for his whole adult life, Sting finally journeyed to WWE and competed at The Showcase of The Immortals against Triple H. That epic match served as a fitting final chapter between The Monday Night War’s biggest in-ring generals, and helped cap off a storied career few will ever forget.
On a night that celebrates greatness, Sting is truly the best of the best. It will long be remembered that he finished his career exactly how he started it: By reaching new heights. He is more than a Superstar. He is, and will always be, The Icon.
