Jerry Lawler reveals recent stroke on “Dinner with The King”
WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler suffered a stroke on Wednesday, March 21, as revealed by Lawler himself on his “Dinner with The King” podcast with co-host Glenn Moore.
The incident occurred as The King was preparing to attend WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif., the following day.
“Around 6:30 in the evening, I had a stroke … out of the clear blue,” Lawler said. His girlfriend Lauryn rushed him to the emergency room where he underwent a CAT scan that determined he had a brain hemorrhage.
“It was a pretty scary situation,” Lawler admitted. “When they got me back from the CAT scan, they informed me, too, that where the blood was bleeding out was on the cognitive part of my brain, which controls your speech and part of your memory, so at this time, I really couldn’t say anything.”
After undergoing extensive testing, Lawler was discharged the following Saturday night once his speech functions returned to normal — a feat that occurred much faster than his doctors expected. He would go on to host the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and call the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal alongside Jim Ross during the WrestleMania Kickoff.
